VERTICAL PANORAMIC EXAMPLES
As a panoramic specialist of course I love the format in general, but particularly when used vertically. The sense of depth (as opposed to a sense of expanse in the horizontal format) is very striking, at the same time as having an Eastern sense of calm and balance. Compositional balance is perhaps trickier to achieve, and singular centrally placed subject matter tends to work well, at least centrally along the horizontal axis. Either that or a subtle balance created by the interaction of items within the frame. At the time of taking the photograph I generally don't think through any of this, I just react emotionally and instinctively.
