'Zomwezi' translates as 'the same'. Perhaps we all are. My quest for photorealism here could overshadow the fact that the passage of time has hidden from me any real knowledge of the two men I have had the honour to draw. Inspired by my own reference photograph taken exactly 30 years ago at Lake Malawi, I want to know are they still with us? Has the supposed simplicity of their lives as I imagine it continued? I can never know. Some passages lead nowhere, and we must accept that.
